Ellen Rijsdorp studied for one year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kampen(NL). After that year she took lessons in ceramical techniques and in wheel throwing in Gouda at SBB. Between 1998 and 2012 she did a series of workshops to develop her skills. At first she made mostly Raku ceramic but had to stop that kind of work from heath problems. She then developed a new style of stoneware ceramics very thinly throwed. She also developed aher own decoration technique that made her work easily recognizable and that shows a great variety of shades. The forms are organic, discs, spheres, deep and flat bowls and plates. Sometimes she gives her pieces a ‘tail’ by which they can only be presented lying. Application of gold luster gives the work an apart stamp and a grat liveliness at different lighting. Besides her ceramic work Ellen is a inspiring teacher of ceramic throwing. She lectures at SBB Gouda and at the Technical University of Delft.
