Judith de Vries takes the form of the bowl as basis for her ceramic work. On the rim of the bowl she applies thin plates of coloured through porcelain. The quality of this is comparable with that of fine lace with the effect of iridescence like you can find on the wings of a bird or a butterfly or on the scale of a fish. Thus Judith finds her inspiration in nature and the patterns there in she finds around her. This can be in the near-by ZOO-Artis but also she can find her inspiration in a bag of English Liquorice. She works and lives in Amsterdam.
In this new series she applies a different method: she cuts the through and through coloured porcelain into a pattern just like in fashion and then constructs it into an object.
