Finn Dam Rasmussen is a ceramicist and skilled sociologist. As a young man, Finn had his own ceramic workshop and showroom in Northwest Funen between 1967 and 72. He participated in a number of exhibitions and was a member of the section ‘Danish Arts and Crafts’ Funen.Finn then studied sociology, did research and taught at the university for several years. Since 2008 he works full time as a ceramic artist in his own studio in Tisvilde in Nordsjaelland. Finn makes sculptural stoneware, which is fired at approx. 1300 ° C. The shapes are sleek, simple and monumental. The surfaces are usually worked with engobes, colored clay mixed with glaze that is plastered on the object in many layers, resulting in a nuanced surface with a very fascinating dusty expressionand a rich colourpalette developed by himself. This work will be presented at the exhibition under the title “Color & Tactility”.
Finn has participated in numerous exhibitions and ceramic markets in Scandinavia, England and Germany.Finn received the “Exhibitor of the Year” Award at the Frue Plads Kunsthåndværkermarked (Craft & Design Fair) in Copenhagen in 2018. The jury justified this as follows:”This year’s award is presented to a craftsman who has been in the field for many years and who has been able to develop and adapt in time. It is a tribute to classic Danish pottery that is rooted in history and tradition, but exactly in the spirit of the time…. This year, the hand bird in particular is given to ceramicist Finn Dam Rasmussen to rethink his expression and challenge his own artistic work. There is a humility and directness in his expression that pays tribute to the everyday and the beauty of the detail. ”
