The manyfold honoured ceramist couple Inke and Uwe Lerch from Northern Germany is taking a striking position in the field of thrown ceramics since the beginning of the 70ties. Inke Lerch makes vessel form in white firing stoneware or in porcelain, that are always finished with a formal and complicated decoration of an exact geometry. This geometry is so refined that it causes a “trompe l’oeuil ” effect of an Escher-like intensity. Both potters studied at the Muthesius-Werkkunstschule in Kiel on the ceramics department of Johannes Gebhardt, also both took lessons in graphics and painting and commercial design and thus the gained complex skills that are still visible in their actual work. But each of them realises his ideas from trhowing, turning to decorating and firing and glazing totally independant. Their manyfolded artistic pursuits don’t endure no work sharing. They exhibited their work for the first time in 1991.
